Job Description – Marketing and Advertising Coordinator
FLSA Status – Non-Exempt

Reporting Relationships – Reports directly to and is reviewed annually by the Executive Director.  Works with the Journey Board of Directors and Journey Museum and Learning Center staff in a collaborative fashion to Market and promote the museum, growing attendance.

 Key Activities and Responsibilities subject to Annual Review
*Weekly attend the Marketing and promotions planning meeting.
*Weekly develop and create e-blast to be distributed to our e-mail database.
*Work with and maintain the Journey Museum and Learning Center website so that is timely and reflective of all activities occurring in the future as best possible and planned.
*Maintain calendars outside of the JMLC website as they are decided upon by the Marketing and Promotions team. Examples include Rapid City Journal and SDPB.
*Create ad copy and designs for print mediums. Examples newspaper ads and posters.
*Create and maintain slide shows for internal display in the Museum as promotions for coming events and recognitions for past supporters and sponsors.
*Assist in Store signage and brand development.
*Assist in the design of power point presentations for both internal uses and for public programs with outside presenters as needed.
*Work with the Marketing and Promotions teams on Digital and Social advertising initiatives. Examples include Facebook and Trip Advisor.
*Create and manage press releases for all JMLC presented programs. Additionally review the media contacts and maintain a quality and up to date send list to assist in the promotions of JMLC programs.
*As a team member of the JMLC it is important that all positions are available to assist in times of need such as during heavy visitation periods of buses either in the Store or throughout the facility as a host.
*Work schedules will require flexibility to help provide support on an as needed basis during Evening and Weekend programing times. Work schedules will be attempted to be worked out in advance for best personal planning.
*Work in our facility in a variety of capacities including Visitor Services, Journey Trading Post, and other events as needed.
*Attend community and mixer events throughout our market to enhance public relations of the Journey Museum and Learning Center as requested by the Executive Director.
*Flexibility is required and additional tasks not listed may be requested as assigned by the Executive Director.

SUMMARY – The Marketing and Advertising Coordinator is a key component to a successful organization. Expert communication skills are an expectation in both verbal and written areas. Growth of the Museum’s revenues and attendance numbers are strongly related to success in this position. Performance reviews will focus on these benchmarks. Additionally positive review of working relationships with staff, MARC members, Journey Board of Directors, and our external customers will be considered when providing feedback through review.

The Journey Museum & Learning Center regularly adds new events, exhibits, and features to the expansive museum, covering American history, Black Hills history, and Native American culture.

The Journey Museum is currently in Winter Hours:

Winter Hours

(October 1st – April 30th)
10 AM – 5 PM Monday through Saturday
1 PM – 5 PM Sundays

Summer Hours

(May 1st – September 30th)
9 AM – 6 PM Monday through Saturday
11 AM – 5 PM Sundays


All individual admissions are good for two days with receipt.

Museum General Admission:

Adults (ages 18+) $10
Seniors (ages 62+) $8
Students (ages 6 – 17) $7
Children 5 & under FREE with family

Groups (10+ people):

$7 per person

Tour guides available. Please call (605) 394-6923 one week prior to visit to schedule.

Education Groups (12+ students):

$3 per student (all students 18 and under)
$5 College Students

Chaperones are requested. Special pricing will be extended to adult chaperones.
