Learning Forum - "Dakota Daughters"

March 4, 2018  2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This program was made possible by the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Celebrate the start of Women's History Month with a special presentation of the "Dakota Daughters". Euro-American, African-American and Native American women portray a narrative of the events leading up to Wounded Knee. Joyce Jefferson, Lillian Witt and Geraldine Goes In Center play Maddie Richardson, Sadie Babcock and Kimemela, respectively. These three woman, although fictional, represent the very real hopes, fears, beliefs and values held by women during the time period of 1865 to 1890.

The audience is invited to watch the transformation of the women throughout the performance. Afterwards,  a meet and great with the presenters with light snacks and refreshments will follow in the museum lobby. Question and answers about the performance will be addressed as well.

Admission includes all other museum activities and is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, half-off for members & FREE for students (ages 6 - 17) with a paid adult/senior admission. Reserve your spot in advance by calling 605-394-6923.
