Reporting Relationships – Reports directly to and is reviewed annually by the Customer Service Manager and Executive Director. Works with Journey Museum and Learning Center employees and volunteers in a team environment to guarantee great visitor experiences.

  • Smile and greet all visitors and team members with a friendly demeanor and encourage others to do the same. Assist visitors in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Adhere to a “can-do” attitude and efficiently resolve visitor questions and requests.
  • Support other team members through “can-do” actions and behaviors.
  • Promptly respond to requests, phone calls and other areas of responsibility.
  • Keep team members advised as to the working order of the museum and help ensure the facility is operationally sound on a day-to-day basis.
  • Works with Customer Service Manager to ensure accurate handling of all customer transactions within museum and museum store.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely close-outs of museum and museum store on a daily basis. These closeouts are subject to review and approval of both Customer Service and Finance Managers.
  • Support the daily tasks of operating a clean and orderly museum. This includes monitoring restrooms and cleaning on a scheduled basis. Additional facility cleaning tasks are to be completed on a daily basis.
  • Provide support in pricing and organizing museum store merchandise as needed or assigned. Consistently monitor inventory levels and replace price tags as needed. Stay aware of the presentation of merchandise and strive to enhance the saleability of products.
  • Assist in the development of signage and promotions as needed.
  • Responsible for understanding upcoming museum events and programs that the museum is actively promoting online and in print. This ensures that our team is able to properly answer and respond to visitor questions.
  • Understand and communicate the benefits of becoming a member of the Journey Museum and Learning Center to our visitors. Portraying the importance of membership to all who come into contact with the museum is essential.
  • Responsible for leading and/or assisting with educational experiences including but not limited to: Toddler Time, Discovery Expeditions, Journey Into Space, Summer Camps, Homeschool Camps, Homeschool Experiences and museum tours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic math and reading skills, legible handwriting, and strong attention to detail are essential elements to success. ARCHIVIST AND CURATIONS MANAGER

Reporting Relationships – Reports directly to and is reviewed annually by the Executive Director. Works closely with Operations Manager, Partner Museum Curators, and Exhibits Committee members. Works with Journey team of employees, board of directors, and volunteers in a collaborative fashion to enhance internal communications and improve the Journey Museum and Learning Center as an educational and interpretative experience.

  • Serve as Executive Director's Administrative Aide in detailing Board and Committee communications. These activities include the schedule management of members who participate in committees and taking/archiving museum meeting notes, both current and past records.
  • Archival activities also include the posting of Board Meeting notes on the Journey Museum and Learning Center website for public access. Additionally, this position will be engaged in the development of communications efforts designed for presentation by staff members to public audiences. This includes participation in Annual Reports, PowerPoint presentations, and any other communications that the Executive Director sees necessary. This position is responsible for the Archival creation of all Museum Alliance of Rapid City (MARC) and Journey Museum communications dating from the beginning of the museum itself to the current day. The creation of this historical database is a key measure of success.
  • Serve as the point person for managing loans of museum artifacts that are not part of a MARC partnership or the Journey Museum and Learning Center’s collection.
  • Responsible for all records management of loans for exhibits.
  • Maintain a database inventory of all Journey Museum and Learning Center’s collection inventory.
  • Maintain the preservation and conservation of the Journey Museum and Learning Center collection. This includes basic cleaning, database management, safe and accurate storage, and video documentation for the JMLC Insurance provider.
  • Work with Executive Director and Museum Partners to create an annual exhibit calendar. Serve as overseer of all temporary exhibit activities. Ensure AAM Museum standards are applied to all collaborative partner exhibits.
  • Identify internal opportunities for re-visioning exhibits and spaces to enhance the visitor experience within the JMLC.
  • Responsible for any public spaces outside of the JMLC that represents the museum’s efforts to communicate to potential visitors.
  • Supports other team members through “Can Do” actions and behaviors.
  • Promptly respond to requests, phone calls, and pages for areas of responsibility.
  • Keep team members advised as to the working order of the museum and work to ensure that the facility is operationally sound on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist in the development of signage and promotions for exhibit efforts as they are scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Examples may include, working in our store or in visitor services, assisting the team and customers, providing leadership for a classroom or tour experience.

Reporting Relationships – Reports directly to and is reviewed annually by the Executive Director. Works closely with Operations Manager and Finance Manager. Works with the Journey Board of Directors and Journey staff in a collaborative fashion to grow revenues and customer satisfaction for both the Museum Alliance of Rapid City (MARC) and the Journey.

  • Work with Finance Manager to ensure accurate administration of all museum revenue transactions.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely close-outs of museum transactions on a daily basis, subject to review and approval of Finance Manager.
  • Recruit, train, and manage museum service staffing positions. This includes writing an annual review attached to potential wage changes. This activity requires the review and approval of the Executive Director.
  • Train paid staff in alignment with the approved personnel handbook.
  • Coordinate customer service volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, and mentoring.
  • Arrange for team training in substantive museum-related areas and interpretation techniques.
  • Assist volunteers and independent contractors as needed for customer service activities.
  • Schedule paid and volunteer staffing to accommodate all museum service needs as anticipated by both Journey staffing and members of the MARC.
  • Responsible for working with Finance Manager to test store inventory accuracy on a quarterly basis and conduct a complete inventory and audit in January of each year.
  • Serve as a point person for the facility's rental business agreements at the Journey. Work with Executive Director and Operations Manager in the coordination and detailing of appropriate policies and agreements for the facility rentals.
  • Lead team of paid staff and volunteer as the example of a positive customer-driven experience.
  • Provide recommendations related to customer experiences and satisfaction. Ensure that action planning that may be proposed is reviewed by the Executive Director and the Executive Board of Directors for appropriate review and discussion before implementation.
  • Ensure that events, as determined by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, are properly coordinated and supported through the customer services team.
  • Serve on unnamed committees related to revenue-related efforts as designated by the Executive Director.
  • Attend community and mixer events throughout our market to enhance public relations of the Journey Museum and Learning Center.
  • As a salaried leader, provide support to the team and staffing as needed or as assigned by the Executive Director.

The Journey Museum and Learning Center regularly adds new events, exhibits, and features to the expansive museum, covering American history, Black Hills history, and Native American culture.

All individual admissions are good for two days with receipt.
