Donald Montileaux Book Reading
May 25, 2019 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us May 25th for a reading of "Tatanka and Other Legends of the Lakota People" by Oglala Lakota author, ledger artist and illustrator Donald Montileaux.
His book was named the “2019 Young Readers One Book South Dakota” by The South Dakota Humanities Council.
On Montileaux’s website, he’s self-described as a “modern-day storyteller, rekindling the images of the Lakota lifestyle by painting the people as they were.”
His artwork and illustrations are world-renowned, with the art being created on ledger and watercolor papers, as well as canvas and animal hides.
Montileaux’s mission is to “portray the Lakota, the Native Americans, in an honest way - to illustrate them as people who hunted buffalo, made love, raised children, cooked meals, and lived.”
“Tatanka and Other Legends of the Lakota People” and some of his other works are available for purchase at The Journey Trading Co.
This free event is co-hosted by Black Hills Reads and is sponsored by The South Dakota Humanities Council, Black Hills Reads, and The Journey Museum and Learning Center.
