First Friday - Grand Opening with Dr. Frank Van Nuys

As told by family member Dr. Frank Van Nuys, the Bower Family Band's musical tradition started in Vermillion, SD and moved to Rapid City. This movement helped inspire collaboration between the National Music Museum and The Journey Musuem & Learning Center for The Music and Immigrants of the Dakotahs exhibit. Learn how the Bower Family Band's unique story led to a major motion picture movie production!
We're keeping the beat of “The Music and Immigrants of the Dakotah’s” flowing! Join us on the first Friday of June, July, August and September to celebrate South Dakota’s melting pot population. Each First Friday features a community gathering showcasing the various cultures that called Dakotah Territory their home.
