The Minnilusa Historical Association invites the public to their Annual Picnic at The Journey Museum and Learning Center.
A light picnic lunch will be served with sandwiches and chips. Entertainment will be provided by Helene Duhamel, who will give a presentation on the Duhamel Company, Family and Collection of Native American artifacts on display at The Journey Museum and Learning Center.
Following the presentation, there will be a ribbon-cutting, celebrating the new Duhamel Exhibit at the museum.
The mission of the Minnilusa Historical Association is to advance the knowledge of pioneer life by managing and maintaining a pioneer museum as a public service; promoting an awareness of the contributions to this area made by our founders and early settlers; collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting historical items; and providing a research center.
The offices, museum collection and research center are located within The Journey Museum and Learning Center in Rapid City.
The Minnilusa Historical Association believes the early settlers of the West River area and the Black Hills of South Dakota exemplified the qualities of perseverance, courage, ingenuity, self-reliance, faith and community spirit that allowed this region to prosper under adverse and sometimes cruel conditions.
It is the aim of the Association to tell their stories and preserve for future generations the lessons of their struggles and triumphs, and advance knowledge and appreciation for both the area and its peoples.
Membership in the Association is open to everyone. Annual dues of $10/individual or $15/family are encouraged at the annual picnic, though not required to attend. Please join us!
