Total Solar Eclipse Live-Stream
August 21, 2017 10:00 am - 1:15 pm
Join the Journey Museum & Learning Center on Monday, August 21 to safely experience a total solar eclipse from our Wells Fargo Theater!
Starting at 10 a.m., the Journey Museum will air a NASA-sponsored, live-stream broadcast featuring four hours of eclipse content. The partial eclipse begins at 10:22 a.m. with the total eclipse starting at 11:42 and lasting approximately three minutes. The eclipse ends at 1:09 p.m.
Rapid City and the surrounding Black Hills will not experience a total solar eclipse. This live-stream event gives the public a chance to experience totality without the hassle of driving hours away. In addition, the broadcast provides a safe environment to witness the eclipse, eliminating any need for solar glasses.
The total solar eclipse live-stream features content from regional and state science organizations. A team of local scientists will release weather balloons equipped with cameras. These cameras will capture the eclipse from thousands of feet off the ground, resulting in a one-of-a-kind viewing experience!
The total eclipse live-stream is included in the daily admission cost to the Journey Museum & Learning Center. Members of the museum receive free admission to the live-stream.
Three days before the eclipse, the Journey Museum & Learning Center will host a learning forum titled Dark Shadows - A Total Solar Eclipse. Attendees of this event receive a free pair of solar glasses as part of the admission fee!
Because seating is limited for both Dark Shadows and the Total Eclipse Live-Stream, we encourage interested parties to call (605) 394-6923 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot in advance.
