Turtle Soup - "Life is a Marathon"

March 29, 2019  12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Feed your mind and your belly with Turtle Soup, featuring a presentation on historic Black Hills figures or events and a bowl of soup provided by Angel’s Catering.

This week, Dr. Elaine Doll-Dunn presents, "Life is a Marathon, So Double Tie Your Shoes!"

This Women in History Month presentation will be Cliffs Notes on Doll-Dunn’s 81-year journey, which she describes as, “Here and there and everywhere; lessons, legacies, and lore.”

Doll-Dunn grew up on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation near Wakpala, South Dakota. She was a ranch girl who learned early that she could do anything - from herding sheep and rounding up cattle to putting dinner on the table every night. She had a passion for life that led to a career in education and a mission of female empowerment.

Doll-Dunn’s life has been an adventure. A graduate of Black Hills Teacher’s College, she taught for 38 years - every age group, every subject. And her passion for fitness has taken her to places like Panama, Kilimanjaro and Siberia.

In 2005, she launched the Leading Ladies Marathon - the only all-female race in the nation. She says the paths less traveled make for the biggest adventure. “Learn that the edge is too safe … live like you love it.”

Doll-Dunn boasts 7 children, 3 advanced degrees, 125 marathons, 51,500 career-running miles and the authorship of 5 books.

Admission for Turtle Soup is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and half-off for members. Call 394-6923 to reserve seats.
