"When Leaves Fall" - MMIW Exhibit

October 8, 2019 - October 21, 2019  11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Come see an exhibit called, "When Leaves Fall: Red Dress Exhibit," in memory of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Children and Two-Spirited of Turtle Island (MMIWC2S).

The exhibit setup is Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m., and it will be available to view through Oct. 21.

The Red Ribbon Skirt Society of the Black Hills is partnering with The Journey Museum and Learning Center on the installation.

There are more than 70 MMIWC2S in South Dakota and across the Northern Plains, so 70 red dresses will be draped from the trees on museum grounds. You'll also see items on the ground that reflect the places MMIW have been found. These items symbolize the pain and suffering experienced by MMIW and their families.

No admission will be charged to view this exhibit. Friends and family members of MMIW are welcome to place flowers or other offerings below the trees.

For more information, contact Lily Mendoza at lilym@rap.midco.net. For more information on the Red Ribbon Skirt Society, go to www.shamusproject.com or find them on Facebook.
