Pop-up Discoveries

The Journey Museum and Learning Center is proud to announce its latest intergenerational learning opportunities to your museum visit experience! Every morning and afternoon you can be surprised and learn about Rocks and Fossils in our Paleo Tent, learn about Constellations and design your own in the STEAM Lab. Plus engage in the history of Fur Trading at our post. All of our discoveries will feature your opportunity to put your hands on history and understand more than ever before.

Graphic for Rocks and Fossils

The rocks and fossils pop-up is a hands-on experience where visitors can touch and discuss fossils from the Badlands. Visitors will also get to learn about local rocks, as well as non-native rocks. This pop-up is held in the Paleo tent, so visitors can meet Tinker the Teenage T-Rex.

Graphic for Constellations

For those who are constantly staring up into the night sky pointing out constellations this pop up discovery is for you! Join The Journey Museum and Learning Center in our STEAM lab to learn more about the constellations in the sky and even get a chance to create your own constellation.

Graphic for Fur Trade

The Black Hills area has a rich history of fur trading and our new pop up discovery will give you the opportunity to learn about the fur trade industry in a whole new way. Kids will have the opportunity to learn about the fur trade and even examine various different furs in The Journey Museum and Learning Center fur post!

The Journey Museum and Learning Center regularly adds new events, exhibits, and features to the expansive museum, covering American history, Black Hills history, and Native American culture.
