Reporting Relationships – Reports directly to and is reviewed annually by the Museum Services Manager and Executive Director. Works with Journey Museum and Learning Center employees and volunteers in a team environment to guarantee great visitor experiences.

  • Smiles and greets all visitors and team members with a friendly demeanor and encourage others to do the same. Assists visitors in a friendly, courteous manner, and efficiently resolve visitor questions and requests.
  • Promptly responds to requests, phone calls and other areas of responsibility.
  • Keeps team members advised as to the working order of the museum and help ensure the facility is operationally sound on a day-to-day basis.
  • Works with Museum Services Manager to ensure accurate handling of all customer transactions within museum and museum store.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely close-outs of museum and museum store on a daily basis. 
  • Supports the daily tasks of operating a clean and orderly museum. This includes monitoring restrooms and cleaning on a scheduled basis. Additional facility cleaning tasks are to be completed on a daily basis.
  • Handles sales in museum gift shop. Consistently monitors inventory levels and replaces price tags as needed. Stays aware of the presentation of merchandise and strives to enhance the saleability of products.
  • Responsible for understanding upcoming museum events and programs that the museum is actively promoting. Assists with the setup for and the facilitation of museum events and rentals happening during regular hours of operation and/or after hours. 
  • Understands and communicates the benefits of becoming a member of the Journey Museum and Learning Center to our visitors. Portraying the importance of membership to the museum is essential.
  • May be responsible for leading and/or assisting with educational experiences including but not limited to: Toddler Time, Discovery Expeditions, Journey Into Space, Summer Camps, outreach programs, and museum tours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY – The Customer Service team is a key component to a positively viewed Journey Museum and Learning Center. To fill the part-time (15-20 hours per week) and full-time positions, you must be able to work weekends and evenings. Experience in education, summer camps, or customer service is desired.

There will be potential to add additional hours and pay after the conclusion of a training period. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Basic math and reading skills, legible handwriting, and strong attention to detail are essential elements to success. Critical features of this job are described above, but job responsibilities may change at any time due to business needs.

The Journey Museum is currently in Winter Hours:

Winter Hours

(October 1st – April 30th)
10 AM – 5 PM Monday through Saturday
1 PM – 5 PM Sundays

Summer Hours

(May 1st – September 30th)
9 AM – 6 PM Monday through Saturday
11 AM – 5 PM Sundays


All individual admissions are good for two days with receipt.

Museum General Admission:

Adults (ages 18+) $10
Seniors (ages 62+) $8
Students (ages 6 – 17) $7
Children 5 & under FREE with family

Groups (10+ people):

$7 per person

Tour guides available. Please call (605) 394-6923 one week prior to visit to schedule.

Education Groups (12+ students):

$3 per student (all students 18 and under)
$5 College Students

Chaperones are requested. Special pricing will be extended to adult chaperones.
