The Journey Museum is looking for an enthusiastic educator and program coordinator who enjoys bringing people, ideas, and stories together.

In this hands-on role, you will create and lead educational experiences that connect children, families, students, and community members with the lands, cultures, histories, and science of the Black Hills. You might spend one day guiding a school group through the Museum, another preparing activities for STEAM Saturday, and the next working with educators or community partners to develop a new program.

What You Will Do

You will coordinate and lead many of the Museum’s established education programs, including:

• School field trips and group tours

• STEAM Saturdays

• Homeschool programs

• Summer camps

• Youth and family learning experiences

• Adult and multigenerational programs

You will also help strengthen existing programs and create new experiences based on community interests, audience needs, and opportunities for growth.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is comfortable engaging groups, managing details, and adapting to the changing needs of a busy museum.

A strong candidate will bring:

• Experience teaching, presenting, facilitating, interpreting, or engaging groups in an educational or public setting

• Experience working with children, youth, families, or school groups

• Strong communication, presentation, organization, and time-management skills

• Creativity, initiative, reliability, and flexibility

• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small Museum team

• The ability to coordinate and support volunteers and docents

• A commitment to creating respectful and welcoming experiences for people from different backgrounds

Experience developing or delivering camps, workshops, school programs, or other formal or informal learning experiences is preferred. Experience in a museum, historic site, classroom, camp, environmental education program, or similar setting is also beneficial.

A bachelor’s degree in education, history, science, museum studies, public history, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
