South Dakota Poet Laureate Bruce Roseland invites you to explore Our South Dakota: An Anthology of Verse, a collection that brings together the voices of 90 poets with deep connections to our state. Co-edited by Roseland, Geri Mendoza Gutwein, and Steve Boint, the anthology captures the experiences of people from all walks of life—from ranchers and farmers to Native storytellers, scientists, merchants, and community members.
In this Turtle Soup presentation, Roseland will share the story behind the anthology, the process of collecting poems from across South Dakota, and how poetry preserves the landscapes, history, and people that define our state. Discover how this unique literary project celebrates South Dakota's rich heritage while creating a lasting record for future generations.
