The Journey Museum invites families, visitors, and community members to a full day of exploration, learning, and celebration—all free of charge. Our 2025 Summer Festival brings history, science, and culture to life through hands-on experiences and engaging activities designed for all ages.
From 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, guests can enjoy a variety of interactive programs that highlight the museum’s unique galleries and outdoor spaces. Learn to throw an atlatl spear with a local archaeologist, step inside a full-size tipi, tour the historic Pap Madison Cabin, and be among the first to explore our newly reimagined S.T.E.A.M. Family Learning Lab, featuring interactive science and learning stations. Plus, don’t miss live planetarium shows running throughout the day in the Wells Fargo Theater.
All core museum exhibits will be open for self-guided exploration and free of charge to all visitors during regular hours (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
Local food trucks will be on-site to keep you fueled for the fun.
This year’s event also celebrates The Journey Museum’s recent merger with the Black Hills Historical Society, expanding our ability to share the most comprehensive story of the Black Hills region.
If you explore the museum and can’t wait to come back, we’ve got you covered with discounted Family Memberships available all day. Also, enter our raffle for the chance to win a FREE Family Membership and other surprise gifts!
No tickets or registration required—just bring your curiosity and your family and friends.
