Donovin Sprague, university instructor, author and historian, will present a lecture entitled, The Battle of Greasy Grass on June 26, 2025, from 4 – 5:30 P.M. This program is free and open to the public. The presentation will explore the historic battle from a Lakota perspective, as we approach the 150th anniversary in 2026. Donovin will also discuss recent archaeological investigations in the area and the new visitor center being constructed at the Little Bighorn National Battlefield National Monument which will open in 2026. He will also share information about the recent acquisition of land within the National Monument by Native American tribes.
Born and raised on the Cheyenne River Reservation, Donovin Sprague is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and a descendent of both Chief Hump and Crazy Horse. Donovin is currently a professor at Sheridan College, Sheridan, WY. He also conducts tours and has presented at major universities, museums, and cultural centers throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He was awarded the 2015 Ziebach County Historian of the Year Award by the Ziebach County Historical Society. He is the author of 10 books, the most recent being Hump and Crazy Horse
