Monumental Memories - Crazy Horse Memorial

For generations, the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation has worked to honor Native American cultures, support education, and create opportunities for future generations.

Join the Journey Museum for a special presentation by Whitney Rencountre II, Chief Executive Officer of the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, as he shares the Foundation’s mission and the many ways it continues to serve communities today.

Learn about the progress of the world-famous mountain carving, the educational programs that support Native students, the cultural experiences offered through the Foundation’s museums and cultural center, and the vision for Crazy Horse Memorial University. Attendees will gain insight into how the Foundation preserves Native heritage while creating opportunities for learning, connection, and understanding.

Whitney Rencountre II from the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe is the Chief Executive Officer of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation and has served the Foundation for the past eight years. He held several leadership roles within the greater community including Chairman of the South Dakota Humanities Council, Chairman of the Board of Visit Rapid City, Commissioner on the Rapid City Human Relations Commission, and Vucurevich Foundation board director. In December 2024 Black Hills State University honored Whitney with an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service. 

Whitney has a passion to build bridges between cultures and works tirelessly on continuing the mission of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation to protect and preserve the culture, tradition, and living heritage of the North American Indians.
